GEAR

At King of 8, we have a theory.  Despite the fact that it's cool to have gigantic gear lists on studio websites (although we have never claimed to be cool), we feel that the gear we use is only good if it is appropriate to a project.  It may be appropriate to use digital recording with high sample rates, detailed large diaphram condenser mics, and modern EQ's on one project, while the next may require tube preamps and ribbon mics while recording to tape.  Both of these approaches are valid.  We are able to accomodate both these approaches to recording and try to find what is best on a case by case basis.

Ultimately, most projects get converted to digital at some point, and we are able to provide clean recordings regardless of the format.

Film and video producers will appreciate that we can sync to video quite easily, and can record in appropriate formats and sampling rates.

We also have a very cool assortment of vintage gear and instruments to choose from and it can be kind of rewarding to find interesting and unconventional ways to use gear to match the vibe of the project.
